This technique for extracting propylhexedrine from Benzedrex inhalers has been tested as working effectively, and can be performed in a home kitchen. The only "unusual" ingredient is muriatic acid, which can be found on eBay sometimes under "hydrochloric acid," chemistry supply stores online, or at your local hardware store. I've heard (but haven't verified) that vinegar or a strong solution of citric or ascorbic acid (lemon juice or vitamin C) will do the trick as well. Always take precautions when working with strong acids... gloves and goggles are recommended.
Note that extracting propylhexedrine from a Benzedrex(tm) inhaler may be dubious from a legal standpoint. This post is for informational purposes only, and is not intended to be performed by anyone. 1/2 inhaler at a time (125mg propylhexedrine) is recommended to cut down on the difficulty of evaporation, and can be repeated if desired.
Ingredients:
(1) One Benzedrex brand inhaler (250mg propylhexedrine)
(2) Muriatic Acid, ~30%
(3) Large, flat microwaveable dinner plate with raised edges
(4) Pair of Scissors
(5) Teaspoon
(6) Small airtight storage bag
(7) Fairly narrow coffee cup or mug (no delicate painted ceramics)
(8) Microwave oven
(9) Blow dryer for hair
(10) Sharp razor blade, safe/grippable on one side.
(11) Optional -- empty "00" capsules
Instructions:
(1) Crack open the Benzedrex package, and then bust the plastic inhaler using a wrench or hammer. Remove the cotton rod inside. Cut it in half, and put the unused half into an airtight bag (the stuff is volatile, so it should be sealed).
(2) Cut up the half you're going to use into multiple pieces with scissors, and put the cotton into a narrow coffee cup or mug (I recommend clear glass). If you have a test tube or glass beaker, use that instead. Add three teaspoons of water... distilled is best, but tapwater will work. Stir the cotton around a bit to loosen the fibers.
(3) Add 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of muriatic acid to the cup. Be careful, the stuff is powerful and can burn skin (and lungs, if inhaled). Stir the cotton around for several minutes. This will convert most of the propylhexedrine base to propylhexedrine hydrochloride. If you're trying a weaker/more easily available acid, put a plate on top and leave the cotton sitting in the solution for 24 hours (otherwise, proceed to step 4).
(4) Add another teaspoon of water, stir well. The solution should now be dilute enough so it won't burn skin, but gloves are still recommended. Remove all the cotton carefully, and squeeze the liquid out of it into the cup. Discard cotton.
(5) Carefully pour the liquid from the cup (it should appear cloudy) into the large, flat dinner plate. Lift the plate (don't spill) and put it into the microwave for evaporation.
(6) Set the microwave to around 3 minutes, and start it up. Stop it at approx. 20 to 30 second intervals, and open the door to let out the fumes. Be careful not to breath the fumes, as they can sear the throat/lungs. Keep the area well ventilated.
(7) Repeat step 6, checking the plate each time, until the water is dried up. You should hear a loud crackling sound when it's getting close, and you will stop seeing the fumes. Make sure the plate doesn't crack from the heat. Remove plate from microwave, using a pot holder and/or gloves... it will be very hot.
(8) Let the plate cool for 5 or 10 minutes. You should see an uneven coating of shiny stuff on the surface, which will likely still be sticky. Hit it with the blow dryer for 5 to 10 minutes, then let the plate cool again. This should be enough to dry out the material, but some experimentation may be necessary.
(9) Scrape the plate thoroughly with the razor blade... You should be left with a pile of white crystals, which consist mostly of propylhexedrine HCl (and some menthol, probably). If scraping results in sticky clumps, dry the plate more with the blow dryer.
(10) You can now put the crystals into a capsule, and do whatever you want with them. Snorting is not recommended, unless you want to visit the true meaning of PAIN (not to mention, the quantities involved make it impractical) -- however, it does work in terms of effects.
Propylhexedrine is an intense local vasoconstrictor -- injecting the crystals can be extremely hazardous to health, and has been documented to cause brain stem dysfunction, vascular changes in the lungs, gangrene at the injection site, and death. Don't do it. If crystals are ingested, it should be on a full stomach or with several glasses of water.
Rectal Administration
Ya knew this had to be brought up, with the recent popularity of this route of administration. Rectal administration of topical vasodilators is not a great idea, but it shouldn't cause any damage if properly diluted. It can also make your propylhexedrine go further.

Note -- not all occur every time the drug is used.
Tips for Using Propylhexedrine
(1) Cut the cotton into *very* small pieces, both to speed drug absorption and aid the body in eliminating the cotton. Takes time, but well worth doing. The propylhexedrine liquid embedded in the cotton is volatile and *gradually* evaporates, so store any remaining cotton in an airtight container.
(2) This Person feels the best ingestion method is to perform step 1, then pack the cotton into capsules. It should take about two "00" caps per inhaler. The cotton taken directly has the potential to cause choking. Always keep some *solid food* (in addition to liquid) handy if swallowing the cotton as-is, in case it gets stuck in SWIY's throat.
(3) It can take a while for the body to fully absorb Propyl from the cotton. Expect up to two hours on a full stomach before getting the full effects. This Person always finds initial effects unpleasant (uncomfortable increase in heart rate/blood pressure), then later the high mellows & This Person becomes deeply/happily involved in activities that the substances makes WAY more interesting and involving.
(4) Take propyl with a lot of fluids or with food, as it's a local vasoconstrictor (thus its use for nasal stuffiness) and can irritate the stomach. The menthol/lavender oil probably doesn't help either. Propyl also appears to be capable of causing gas/bloating and other unpleasant intestinal symptoms due to the drug effect.
(5) This Person feels Propyl focuses less on Norepinephrine than amphetamines, but probably as much on dopamine. That means a mellower high more oriented toward motivation, drive, aggression, focus, euphoria and sexuality rather than tweaking, jitters, paranoia, insomnia, wiredness, etc. It can also make propyl seem like a weaker drug than it is -- SWIM was really fooled the first couple times by the relative lack of tweakiness.
(6) Propyl seems to last 6-8 hours for SWIM, with some variability probably due to weird absorption characteristics from the cotton. The high is followed by a long and almost unnoticeably slow comedown (4 hours or more), again probably contributed to by the cotton. First sign of comedown is probably renewed appetite. Last to go seems to be the rapid heartbeat & difficulty sleeping. If sleep deprivation is involved, there could be a "crash" at some point, but it just strikes This Person as unlikely given his experiences with the substance. Next-day fatigue & muscle soreness are definite possibilities tho, unfortunately. Note: If used in a sustained "run" (12+ hours?), propyl is capable of causing delayed depression and anxiety symptoms around 2-3 days later.
(7) Harm Reduction: Propyl increases heart rate and blood pressure, and causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels). Use a small dose of atenolol, propranolol or another beta blocker to slow the heart (caution: medium to large doses of beta blockers without corresponding alpha blockade can *increase* vasoconstriction/blood pressure and may be dangerous). Labetalol (combined alpha/beta blocker) is a good alternative, if SWIY can obtain it. Also, enalapril can be used for vasodilation and to lower blood pressure. Use benzodiazepines to "take the edge off" if things get too wirey. For those with no access to these prescription medications: The herbs "Hawthorn" and "Ginkgo Biloba" in sufficient doses will help, & alcohol seems to be the universal "edginess cure" w/stimulants . 1/4 to 1/2 an adult aspirin helps thin the blood and may increase cardiac safety (but don't use it with alcohol and/or Ginkgo). Also, untested by This Person but discovered online: Apparently Saw Palmetto may also be helpful.
(8) Extraction: Lately there seems to be almost zero point to this person. Propyl requires too high a dose to snort conveniently, plus is very painful and irritating to the nose; oral ingestion of the HCL salt doesn't really take effect much faster than ingesting freebase form imbedded in the cotton. Dissolving the crystals in water and administering rectally is possible, but (a) doesn't work well because intense local vasoconstriction defeats the purpose, and (b) causes an unpleasant burning sensation and/or feeling as if one has to use the toilet. Not recommended either. About the only real gain from extraction to hcl salt is loss of most of the nasty lavender oil (taste). It's a lot of trouble to go through just for that, and yield is rarely 100% (albeit close if extraction performed correctly). Even people insane/stupid enough to inject propylhexedrine really don't need to extract/convert it first... enough of the freebase form can be extracted from the cotton with water to just go ahead and do it that way.
Making (via extraction) a nonprescription sleep aid
Inspired by a recent question asking about non-prescription sleep aids. The following formula is intended for other-than-oral consumption (nasal, rectal, sublingual) -- oral users can just skip and ingest portions of tablets directly if desired.
Note the general idea, which is using lower doses of multiple sedating antihistamines to create an additive effect, as well as taking advantage of the alcohol-solubility of most of these substances (whereas pill solids tend not to be).
The formula contained herein is experimental and not intended for human consumption or to diagnose, treat or cure any disease. Any use is at one's own risk! Do your research before using *any* substance in *any* quantity. This post is for entertainment purposes only.
Ingredients per 2 doses:
* 5ml 91-99% isopropyl (or denatured ethyl) alcohol. Use highest concentration that can be found.
* 25mg diphenhydramine HCL (tablet or capsule)
* One Chlor-Trimeton tablet (4mg) or other tablet/capsule containing ONLY chlorpheniramine maleate 4mg. Optional: Substitute doxylamine succinate 12.5mg OR (chlorpheniramine 2mg + doxylamine 6.25mg)
(1) Empty capsules into a small, coverable/sealable container (if in tablet form, pulverize tablets using a mortar/pestle or other pill crusher). Be sure to watch dosages.
(2) Add alcohol to pill mixture. Optional: Add acetone to alter solubility factors. Stir/shake for 5 minutes. Cover/seal well. Refrigerate.
(3) Let mixture settle into two layers; pill gunk at bottom and alcohol on top.
(4) Using an eyedropper, remove the alcohol layer and filter it through a coffee filter onto an evaporation plate. Be sure to squeeze out coffee filter to avoid wastage.
(5) Evaporate alcohol, scrape up resulting crystals.
(6) Ingest *half* via method of choice (insufflation, rectal or sublingual). Note that if this is ineffective in producing sleep and does not induce serious respiratory depression, the other half may be used. Do not use with *any* other CNS depressants, including alcohol.
The author has confirmed effectiveness, but finds that better results can be obtained by using *water* rather than alcohol. Allow the pill matter to settle out to the bottom until the solution is clear (may take a day or two), then siphon off the solution and evaporate it. Or use the clear solution as-is rectally. Be very careful, mixing antihistamines does indeed potentiate things dramatically. Use only a small amount until you know how you're going to react!
Extracting (nearly) pure clonazepam from tablets
This person experimented and found that clonazepam is reasonably soluble in alcohol (e.g. 99% isopropyl) whereas the rest of the pill contents are not. If anyone was interested in isolating nearly pure clonazepam for trying different routes of admin, this would be a way to do it. This person tried snorting a bit of the results and it had a rapid and powerful effect, which was interesting in that snorting is really not supposed to work. If anyone does this, use extreme caution... the resulting residue after filtering/evaporation is very potent. This person feels sedated and his memory is adversely affected (leaving stuff around the house, etc). He's not sure how much was taken... it was a pretty small amount of 'extracted' clonazepam, visually speaking.
* Grind pills to a fine powder, then add isopropyl alcohol (preferably hot or warm). Shake/stir for a while.
* Pour alcohol mixture through a coffee filter onto an evaporation plate. Liquid on plate should appear clear. Allow to air-evaporate or use a blow dryer.
* Scrape crystalline residue off plate. Use caution, it's potent!
Edit: This person's getting conflicting data as to whether clonazepam is more soluble in alcohol or acetone. Therefore, he recommends mixing alcohol + acetone in the first step above (acetone can be obtained from a chemistry set supply store). Also, filtering through a coffee filter may not be necessary if the solution is allowed to sit awhile and the gunk from the pills to settle out to the bottom.
